EAT-PRAY-LOVE: UBUD.

UBUD. You may be familiar with this little gem due to Julia Roberts' Eat Pray Love movie - and it is honestly one of the best places in the world. I arrived in Ubud after a pretty hectic night in Kuta (note- do not take tequila shots with tabasco... ever.) The taxi took us around 2 hours due to ridiculous Bali traffic, and the car didn't have air-con... this + hangover = hell. But after nearly being sick numerous times, and going round and round the one way system that is Monkey Forest Rd, I told the taxi driver to stop looking for the homestay I'd planned on staying at, and to instead drop me and my ridiculous over-sized backpack on the side of the road, outside of 'Warsa's Garden Bungalows.'

The cutest little man greeted my friend and I and showed us to a private bungalow which we could stay at for 250,000IRP a night (around £16/17ish including breakfast) It was clean, had aircon + hot water (LUXURY) and a shared pool - which, we didn't actually use due to ALL the other fun things to do in Ubud. We spent our first day mooching along Monkey Forest Rd, which is such a lovely change from Kuta. Yes, there are still tonnes of woman offering 'maaaaassage?' (which by the way- get one! they're amazing- we went to Daisy's for a full body massage... ahhhh) but the atmosphere is completely different to Kuta and Seminyak. You feel as though you're in 'proper' Bali. The one that you see on Eat  Pray Love! The food along Monkey Forest Rd is delish - and the whole vibe is relaxed, everyone seems happy and chilled.

The next day, we decided we HAD to go to the Monkey Forest, at the bottom of the road. We'd read everywhere about the cheeky monkeys - warning us not to take in valuables, as they'll steal anything! And ohhhh...myyyyyy..goooodness. I was TERRIFIED of them! Now- I am an animal LOVER. Hell, I wanted to be a vet for years, and worked with wild animals in South Africa! I am by no means 'scared' of animals. But jeeeez - these monkeys!!! Approach with caution. I must point out, that my fear stemmed from one 'screaming' at me as soon as I walked into the forest. I think I must have looked at its baby in a 'aww-you're-so-cute-maybe-I-could-steal-you' kind of way and the mother monkey went KRAY... ran towards me, SCREAMING; until I fell backwards, also screaming in to a bunch of equally frightened Americans.

After I got over the initial TERROR that mother monkey caused me, it was actually a really good day. The monkeys weren't too bad with the whole stealing thing - well, I didn't hear anyone scream in outrage "that monkey's stolen my camera!!" but I was pretty pathetically protective over mine (try and say that tongue-twister fast!) There were people buying bunches of bananas on entry - beware, the monkeys literally clamber all over you, steal the whole bunch and there's your 50p gone. One little content monkey came over with his banana to me, sitting on a rock, sat by me, sighed and held my hand. I DIED INSIDE A LITTLE. Too cute.

The next day, a guy from Warsa's, 'Wayan' took us on a daytrip with another Brazilian girl staying at the hotel. He was SO lovely. The cutest man I've ever met.  For £12, he drove us around for the day, to all the local temples, where we were blessed and able to pray and walk through all of the rice paddies... He took us up to the top of Mt Batur, a volcano, where we had lunch looking over Bali... He drove us to the hot springs, dotted all over the volcano, and to a coffee plantation where we were able to sample about 20 different flavoured coffees - along with the most expensive coffee in the world (which FYI- tastes gross. Give me a skinny hazlenut latte any day of the week)

For our final day in Ubud, we visited the Elephant Safari Park in Taro - which, my friends, is an ABSOLUTE must do. Like crazily so. You've GOT to do it... Convinced?

We were picked up from Warsa's at 9am, and driven to Taro- about 20 minutes outside of Ubud. The Elephant Safari Park was SO well maintained and clean. I was sceptical at first, and had looked into about three different Elephant trip excursions online - as I really didn't want to go somewhere that the elephants weren't going to be looked after properly. But here, the elephants all seemed SO well looked after. All the staff were really friendly and funny, and we were able to ride 'Petrie' the first Sumatran Elephant in Bali! She was 50+ and cute AS. We were also able to feed the elephants, watch a performance where the keepers play football/basketball with the elephants, AND had a massive buffet lunch - all included in the price, which was something like £45 - bargain. On the way out, there is a wall with photos of celebrities who have also visited the Safari Lodge including the Beckhams, Tony Blair, Claudia Shiffer, Steve Irwin and of course, Julia Roberts.

Indonesia - pt.1

Okay, so I should probably explain my absence from the blogosphere (is that a word) ((is that SPELT right?!) for the past few months...

WELL..

I know I mentioned aaaaaages ago I was going to Indonesia with my bestie this summer, for a month of chilling and travelling.. well, I've just got back! It was seriously incredible - if anyone is planning a trip to Indonesia / gap year / holiday - I definitely suggest going! If you follow my twitter you'll definitely be aware that I'm suffering from a major case of the Bali Blues right now... I just want to go back! So before I delve back in to the beauty world and 'all things pretty' - (man, I've missed blabbering on about make-up) I feel like I need to tell you ALL ABOUT my travels around "Indo'! So sit down, grab a brew and pretend you're on holiday- because these next few posts are going to be all about BALI.

(Note: If you do not care one teeny bit about my trip to Indonesia, do not continue reading as you will be thoroughly bored.)

Arrived in Kuala Lumpur - note, my happy, smiling, excited face - this was before the fifteen hours of hell.

My friend Jessie, and I flew from London Heathrow - via Kuala Lumpur - to Denpasar, Bali... (I'm going to skip out the 15 hour layover we had in Kuala Lumpur - bedbugs, homeless men and horrendous food is just a snippet of what we experienced, and unless you REALLY want to read about what a horrific time it was, I'd rather get to the good bits!) So upon arrival, we got a (ridiculously expensive- looking back) taxi, straight to Kuta - the main 'touristy' centre of Bali. We'd been warned about 'Kuta' by so many people - as it was often described as Australian Ibiza/Magaluf/Ayia Napa/HELL... but apart from the obvious - hundreds of 'touts' trying to sell you "Jiggy Jigg" hats / fake Ray-Bans / Bintang singlets (yes I bought one whoops) it really wasn't all that bad. No... Kuta is NOT what you expect Bali paradise to be like - but we figured it would be a good place to start...

For the first few nights in Kuta, we stayed at a small hotel/hostel called 'Bendesa' which we paid 150,000 IDR for - (around £10 a night, £5 each- bargain!) We had a pool, and yes, the room was basic - we only had cold water, 'clean-ish' sheets and the-most-annoying-and-loud fan known to man. But come on - for £5 a night! We were right off 'Poppies Gang 2' - one of the main strips in Kuta, and our room price included breakfast which meant we were able to devour the BEST banana pancakes every single morning before hitting the beach.

The best way to describe Kuta to you? ... Mammoth amounts of cars, taxis, scooters (who FYI WILL run you down on the pavement - don't say I didn't warn you!) Men shouting 'TRANSPORT?!' at you every two seconds, and women luring you with 'MAAASSAGE?!' is a pretty regular occurrence. You quickly learn the benefit of 'tidak!' (meaning no!) ... Aussies EVERYWHERE... Surfers EVERYWHERE... Fake RayBans EVERYWHERE!!! It took us a good five days to establish which side of the road the Balinese drive on.. as it seems to just be 'drive into the space'... even if that space is the back of your legs. Manic.. definitely. But very fun!

We originally only spent the initial two days in Kuta (I say originally - we did spend the odd night 'out' partying in Kuta throughout the month!) before we headed to Seminyak... a more 'upmarket' part of Bali - full of super skinny, super rich, super duper 'cool' people. INTIMIDATING. Our hotel here set us back a whopping £30 a night. Now yes yes, that's still 'cheap' considering what you might pay elsewhere - but trust me, if you're wanting to do it 'budget' in Bali... that's expensivo. Saying that, Seminyak really was uber cool. A must do - at night, the beach is lined with beanbags and acoustic music where you can sit back, relax, mojito in hand and watch the sunset... whilst a small Balinese lady called Mari will massage your feet for £2... BLISS.

So that just about covers my first few days in Bali - next we headed to Ubud - where Eat, Love, Pray was filmed (Julia Roberts...duh.. watch!) and Ubud definitely deserves it's very own blogpost.

I-AM-BACK.

It has been SO long since my last blog post, I actually don't know where to start. I even considered scrapping PS...Chloe completely and starting a fresh (don't judge me, I feel guilty for not posting in so so long!!) But LOTS has changed in my life. 

 Anyway- I am BACK. With a super amazing new laptop (yayy I got a macbook air- finally!) and I promise to keep on top of blogging again.

Sorry for the lack of posting guys... had an absolute nightmare recently- laptop is completely dead, and with uni deadlines at the end of last week you can imagine it was hell!!! Now back at home in Cheshire which is laavly, but still without a computer! So please bear with guys, I'll be backkkkk...

PS// If anyone would be so kind as to buy me a Macbook Pro/Macbook Air .. that'd be fab.

GET TO KNOW ME

1. Are you named after anyone?

I'm not named after somebody - but the perfume 'Chloe' (destined to love all beauty related things eh?!) ... Apparently it was my mum's signature scent at the time, which now I always wear!

2. When was the last time you cried?

I think I actually cried last night, but in my sleep.. (how sad!) Hmm apart from that... can't really remember, which is good! Weeeep

3. Do you have kids?

Not yet thankyouuu! Although I am one of those freaks who knows her children's names already... ha

4. If you were another person, would you be a friend of yourself?

I'd like to hope so!

5. Do you use sarcasm a lot?

Yeah I reckon I do... that's an English thing though isn't it?! Ahem lowest-form-of-humour

6. Will you ever Bungee Jump?

I'd like to think so ! I have quite a few friends who have been to cool places like New Zealand and Thailand and bungee jumped... Would literally be terrifying but I think I'd love it

7. What's your favourite cereal?

I don't eat cereal... bleugh it's just so bland and boring - wish I did though, bit healthier than a fry-up!

8. What's the first thing you notice about people?

Probably superficial things like their hair, face etc. I'm rubbish at paying any attention to people's clothes when I first meet them (which is weird as I love clothes) .. ooh and I have a thing about accents so I definitely notice peoples voices!

9. What is your eye colour?

Blue :)

10. Scary movie or happy endings?

Definitely happy endings... I'm such a girl! I used to LOVE scary movies and now I can't stand them... I watch them and I'm like 'why am I putting myself through this!!!!' ..Give me a rom-com and ben&jerries any day.

11. Favourite smells?

Hmm, coconut - reminds me of summer, summer products and things! Then standard smells like freshly cut grass, clean sheets etc.. think everyone loves them. Aaand perfume wise - too many! Alien by Theirry Mugler, Chloe, Hollister, Daisy by Marc Jacobs, Juicy Couture perfumes.. gosh loads!

12. Summer or winter?

Absolutely summer, I'm such a summer person and always have been. Nothing at ALL is better than the sun, a beach and a bikini. Don't get me wrong, I love cosy nights in front of the fire ... but summer will always win for me. Plus, my birthday is at the end of May so I always tend to have summery BBQ birthdays!

13. Computer or television?

Hmm, computer.. but that's because you can watch TV on it. Not going to lie - I love my TV.

14. What's the furthest you've ever been from home?

Errrrm, South Africa? That's further than Florida right?! I spent a month in South Africa when I was 17 working with animals and a game capture team which was INCREDIBLE. Oooh, but I'm going to Indonesia for a month in August with my bestie which I cannot WAIT for, so then that'll be the furthest.

15. Do you have any special talents?

Oh god I'm not sure! Nothing that stands out.. I wish I could sing (I can't at ALL) I think I'm going to have to ask someone else this question and get back to you........ !!

16. Where were you born?

Cheshire in England - born and raised. (Which is near Manchester) Some say it's a bit of a bubble, but I love it.

17. What are your hobbies?

Obviously make-up, shopping and girlie things like that. I'm also a bit obsessed with cooking, and acting like Bree VanDerkamp! Being with my friends and boyf- Chris, travelling, going for dinner...

18. Do you have any pets?

Yes! I have two labradoodles who are too fricking cute: Ruby (who has already had one litter of puppies and is expecting another this summer!) and Daisy aka Daisy-Mae Monroe (yep we're that sad) who we only got last April. Literally obsessed with my puppies, couldn't live without them!

19. Favourite movies?

Lots and Lots! The Notebook, Limitless, Law Abiding Citizen, Friends with Benefits... Gosh too many to name really.

20. Do you have any siblings?
Yep, I have a sister who doubles up as a bestie. Chris thinks we're weird because we're stupidly close and have all our own phrases and words... but meh!

RIMMEL WAKE ME UP foundation // review

I've been meaning to post this for a while, but have been so lazy on the blogging front so I'm sorry! I'll try my hardest to be better..

So here it is, my Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation review.

There is one major downfall to this product for me... the colour range: my sample was in 200 soft beige, which (as you can see from the photo's) makes me look... muddy. BUT apart from that it's actually a really nice drugstore foundation.

It claims to 'visibly reawaken' and 'illuminate' the skin... well, illuminate - yes I think it definitely does, the coverage is sheer to medium and it does have a lovely dewy glow to it. But 'visibly reawaken'?! Hmm not sure that's not just all talk. It also has a lovely fresh fruity smell to it (which may put off some people who are funny about putting perfumed products onto their skin) but I really like it!

For £8.99(ish) a bottle, if you can find your colour match then this foundation is really lovely... don't be put off by the overly shimmery look it has to it in the bottle, as I found that it blends out into nothing- so I'd definitely recommend as a foundation for the summer.

MAC Naughty Saute // LIPSTICK REVIEW

Hey girlies, today I'm doing a review on a new MAC lipstick I have from the SHOP MAC COOK MAC collection: Naughty Saute.

Naughty Saute is a cremesheen lipstick, meaning that it has a light and creamy consistency - with a little gloss, however not taking away from the pigmentation. It's really soft on the lips and feels moisturising too which makes it really long lasting... I have worn this lipstick and not had to reapply it for over 3 hours which I think is pretty darn good.

Naughty Saute is a bright, futuristic-barbie pink colour, with blue undertones - so not one for the faint hearted, but I think it's really wearable and the blue undertones are good for making your teeth look white!

I'm actually loving this colour which is quite surprising as I usually steer clear from super bright lipsticks however I think that's changing as I'm currently really wanting the 'watch me simmer' lipstick from the same collection which is a warm summery coral shade. Anyway let me know what you think and if you're lusting after this lipstick get it now! as I know the MAC cook collection is selling out FAST.

MAKE-UP LOOK #6: Lauren Conrad Inspiration

Ever since first watching Laguna Beach back in 2005, I've been obsessed with 'LC' Lauren Conrad. Her effortlessly cool, SoCal beach chic look is so wearable and adaptable that I think every girl loves a bit of the Lauren look! Her clean, everyday make-up is really similar to what I do on a day-to-day basis therefore I've been wanting to show you this for a while. As Lauren isn't a fan of eyeshadow on herself, her make-up is so quick and simple to do- a winged out line of eyeliner, touch of bronzer, flick of mascara and you're good to go! MAKE-UP LOOK #5: Purple smokey eyes

Today I've done yet another smokey eye look with a twist - a purple smokey eye. I love this look for a night out, as it's a little different than your classic smokey eye and looks fab with most skin tones. I've listed the products I used above but will also list them below in more detail. Hope you guys like it, let me know XO Chloe

Products:
MAC Studio Fix Fluid foundation - I use the colour NC25, and this is a really good foundation for evening makeup as the coverage is quite heavy and really reduces shine so is perfect for oily skin types.
Sheer Cover mineral foundation powder - This is a really nice mineral powder in the colour Latte which really helps to set the foundation, however if you have dry skin and decide to use the MAC studio fix fluid, you might want to skip the powder.
Lancome Blush Subtil in Peach Feast - Gorgeous, long-lasting blush with golden highlighting pigments... lovee it.
Lancome Gel liner in Black Carbon Ink
YSL Volum Effect Faux Cils - I use this almost every day... it's my absolute favourite mascara!
Bourjois Paris eyeshadow in 04 noir precieux - I packed this against the lash line for a really deep, dark purple colour.
No7 Sultry Eyes Palette - This is the palette I used with the bourjois shadow in this look... but unfortunately the separate colours do not have names. I used the darkest shadow on the left over the bourjois to add some depth and shimmer, and then I used the second lighter purple eyeshadow in the crease and blended into the darker shade. I then used the lightest shimmer colour in the palette to highlight the brow bone a little.
MAC lipglass in Curvaceous - I finally finished this look with a nude, glossy lip.
